This guy, Darren Rowse, has revealed that he now makes more than $10,000 per month from Google ads on his blogs. He has about 20 blogs, including Digital Photography Blog, ProBlogger and others.
Well worth watching what he does, of course. I can easily guess that it works well to have a blog that reviews digital cameras, as the people who visit it will be quite motivated to click on context sensitive ads that advertise those cameras.
But, as he says, he is a bit reluctant to reveal exactly which ones of his blogs do best, and why. Because a bunch of people will simply copy the formula. They're probably not going to do as well, but it will still spoil the business opportunities a little bit.
Although there's a lot to say for being first. There was a guy who copied my whole scheme from my webcam page, and even did some things a bit better. But he doesn't have the amount of incoming links I do, and from watching the activity on the site, I can easily guess he isn't doing as well with the ads on it.
I'm not making much on blogging, not that I'm particularly trying. Maybe $1 per day from Google ads, that's about it. I'm not sure if I could get myself to make a blog only for the purpose of attracting traffic and ad income. It would have to be something I truly was interested in.
